Number of youth served to date: 277
RESET is an early intervention/alternative sentencing education program serving young adults from ages 13 - 24 from nearby counties, across Maryland and surrounding states. An attempt to Reset attitudes and behaviors. Students learn the short term and long term effects of Alcohol, Marijuana, Cocaine, Heroin, Ecstasy, K2 and Prescription medication along with the effects of those drugs to their family and to the community. Students visit different locations to learn the "truths" relating to how alcohol and drugs will effect them and their goals. Students learn about social media, respect, truancy, risky behavior and responsibility. RESET is an alternative sentencing option for the Boards of Education, Courts, Juvenile Services, Teen Court, Health Department and State's Attorney. Parents may refer their children for early intervention.

The RESET Program is NOT a “scared straight” program and does not encourage any presenter, guest or instructor to purposely scare our students. RESET is a structured (four class) program that provides “Real Life” experiences to allow change in the students attitude and/or behavior. The program educates our youth on the (medically known) short term and long term uses of alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, K2/Weed and prescription medications. We also relate to how these drugs effect the family and our community. Our visit to the hospital allows our students to have knowledge of the daily activities and strains of the hospital staff that are totally affected by the use of drugs and/or alcohol. The visit the courtroom allows our students to gain an insight and knowledge about our judicial system from our top prosecutor, probation agent and guest speakers so they may have a better understanding of what may occur should they offend again. Knowing what penalties may be imposed should provide a deterrent to further criminal activity saving our court system time and money. The visit to the Detention Center allows our students to know exactly how they’ll be housed and cared for if they become institutionalized. The staff shows the daily routine of an inmate along with the issued items that each inmate receives which is far from the “everyday” items they enjoy at home, no matter how bad the living environment may be at their home. Yes, inmates relate to their life while incarcerated, however, far from a “scared straight” approach, instead they share personal information about how they began using drugs and where and how those drugs placed them in the judicial system and into the institutions. The inmates give up their visitation time and are given no “good time” to be involved with the RESET program visit to the detention center. The inmates personal thoughts and comments allow our students to learn from their mistakes and misfortune.
The Board of Directors and I am fully aware of the studies about scared straight programs. RESET allows our students to be provided with proven medical information relating to drug and alcohol use and abuse. The students are exposed to “Real Life” experiences from our presenters providing them an education on why they need to consider changing their attitudes and their behaviors, especially their “friends” in order to become productive members of society and achieve their personal goals.
RESET is presented at four different locations:
-Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Office, 505 Rairoad Ave, Centreville, Md. Education of effects of alcohol and drugs to the user, family and community.

State's Attorney Lance Richardson explains the laws & penalties related to Drugs & Alcohol along with Parole & Probation Agent Broughton explaining their role and expectations while on probation along with Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home explaining the effects of death to the family, especially involving drugs and alcohol. -Queen Anne's County Detention Center, 500 Little Hut Lane, Centreville, Md. Students tour the facility having inmates share their personal stories explaining how they got institutionalized due to drugs and alcohol. A completion certificate is issued to each successful student.
